Je ne regrette rien has been selected as Best Animation by the Barcelona jury of the Around International Film Festival (ARFF) for July 2020. We are now in the official selection for the final awards to be held later this year. The Around Film Festival is a collective of festivals in four cities - Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona. Each month, juries in those cities select monthly winners to be considered for the annual awards. The ARFF International board evaluates the submissions to select All Around for the Yearly program.
Je ne regrette rien was created using evolving virtual production methodologies in film and animation focused on multi-platform authoring that allows us create fantastical story worlds. It is the first chapter of a multi-platform triptych - film, VR and mobile film shot in VR. The story is inspired by our time in Covid-19 lockdown.
In June 2020 in a week in which VE day celebrations collided with Black Lives Matter protests we began to question the persistence of nostalgia as a form of social control. Je ne regrette rien begins our reflection on the historical conception of nostalgia as a deadly disease.
