During the lockdown of 2020, a seemingly innocent question provoked an unexpected response: “What do you miss?” Nothing. We don’t want to go back.

Je ne regrette rien confronts the pull of nostalgia in a world facing pandemic, political division and climate crisis. Moving between “I have no regrets” and “I regret nothing”, it explores the uneasy relationship between memory, power and responsibility. What do we overlook when we imagine the past as a golden age? And what do we allow to persist?

Directed by Fiona Bavinton and made entirely in Unreal Engine, the film turns that refusal to return into a call for shared humanity and a different future.

The film was nominated by the judges at the Goya-qualifying Soria International Short Film Festival (SOIFF), alongside festival wins recognising its experimental filmmaking, original score and sound.
